This year we celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Sinlahekin Wildlife Area – the state’s first in 1939 – with seven weekend events. It began with a ceremony on June 7 that included local, state, tribal and federal officials, dedication of a hiking trail, and a memory-sharing session with the area’s first families and managers. Five summer weekends offered free public field trips and presentations by experts on the area’s diverse wildlife, vegetation, geology & history. The celebration concluded on National Public Lands Day and National Hunting & Fishing Day, Sept. 27, with the “Mule Deer Dash” fun run.
