Also, let me know if you feel otherwise. Weve been taught to think with a punishment mindset. You know the OLD saying Spare the Rod, spoil the child.? Well lets make sure we understand what that means exactly. ...Back in the day Shepherds used the rod to guide their sheep in the direction that he wanted them to go. He also used it to ward off dangerous prey in order to protect his sheep. Sheep require leadership. They would get lost. They would get themselves killed without it. Thats whats happening in this family. The child may or may not require a good ass whoopin. The point is Mom is not using the power of her rod to guide her son. She does yell at him, punish him and she smacks him in the face, obviously... He is a lost sheep. No life skills. No direction. No structure. He is showing the audience what his mom is really like off camera. The truth about cause and effect - Moms approach is the cause. The childs behavior is the effect. She changes, he changes! How can the child be the one held responsible for being the cause? He is looking to his parents to teach him life skills, not the other way around.
