Thistle Sounding Off: Have ever been in a situation when asked where in the caribbean youre from and told them your Island,s or territorys name the persons response like, act or say they dont know where your island or country is , or they never heard of your country( Island). Well I have on many occasions. It makes me wonder if that person really knows that the Caribbean or the west Indies is a group of Islands strecthing in a BIG CURVE from the coast of North America ( Florida) to South America ((Venezuela). In other words from Cuba to Trinidad and Tobago. I do think that all of us who have been Educated in the Caribbean Especially the English speaking ones with the Exceptions of U.S. Virgin Islands , has the same school carriculum and Syllabuses throughout the region.Those of us who are a bit older has done The same G.C.E. Examinations , London,or Cambridge . which is now being replaced in the lates 70s by the Caribbean Examination Council established in 1972, and took over from the English Exams in the Mid to late 70s. So for one to act like they never heard or recognised your island territory in my mind left more questions than answers as to whether or not theyre really from the caribbean or even being a West Indian.
