Thomas Gallucci Obituary Thomas Gallucci, 83, of Manchester, N.J., passed away at his home on July 11, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. from Shooks Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove, N.J. Funeral Mass is at 11 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Cedar Grove. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, N.J. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memories and condolences may be shared at shookscedargrove. Tom was born and raised in Newark, N.J., lived briefly in Bloomfield, N.J., and then moved to Cedar Grove, where he spent most of his life raising his three children, Tom, John, and Fran, with his beloved wife, Catherine. He served proudly in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Tom attended the University of Georgia on a football scholarship, and then continued his education at Panzer College, where he earned his bachelors degree in health and physical education. He also earned his masters degree in education from Montclair State University. Tom was passionate about sports, particularly football. and teaching. He combined those passions in an accomplished career that spanned four decades as a physical education teacher and coach. He coached at Bloomfield and Passaic high schools, as well as Montclair State and Fairleigh Dickinson universities, but spent the bulk of his career at Nutley High School. He coached football, track, and wrestling throughout his distinguished career. He also served as the athletic director at Nutley High School. Throughout his life, Tom was a sage advisor to family, friends, students, and athletes, and always made time to listen and share his wisdom with others. His advice was even more invaluable because everyone knew it was a reflection of how he lived his life. During his summers, Tom was the manager of the Cedar Grove Community Pool for 27 years, a place to which he devoted his heart and soul. He later developed a true passion for golf, and spent many hours enjoying the course at his home in Manchester, N.J., where he and Catherine moved upon his retirement. Tom was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Fran; parents, Thomas and Frances; brother, Pasquale (Pat), and nephews, Joey and Tom. Surviving are his childhood sweetheart and beloved wife of 60 years, Catherine; son, Tom and his wife, Debbie; son, John; sister, Dolly; grandchildren, Tommy, Michael, Seth, Arielle, and Gemma; nieces, Angela and Delaney Slater, and Missy, and sister-in-law, Betty McVeigh.
