Thor Sheil In my status as American Legion Chaplain for Monmouth - TopicsExpress

Thor Sheil In my status as American Legion Chaplain for Monmouth Country, I have been appointed to the Religious Emphasis Committee. Its purpose is “to foster and maintain Service to God...” No matter what name or names you call the God of your understanding, the idea of “service to God” is so easy that this is a no-show job for me. To explain. let’s tuck in another ‘o’. Service to GOOD is identical to service to God and the two cannot be separated. Here are a few examples of Service to God and Good right in our Post 54: All of the drives and events and fundraisers to help others, like the current toy drive. The crew who fixed the fire escape on their own time. The people who cleared out and are fixing the basement from flooding by the Hurricane. The people who go to the bank and take care of all the mundane tasks of keeping the Post open. All of the people who went out to plant flags on veterans’ graves for Memorial Day.. The people who sell the raffle and 50/50 tickets that help our Post. The fellows who man the barbecue grill on Memorial Day and other events. People who work for the good of Post 54 and the Legion, taking care of some expenses out of their own pockets. Those who show up to provide color guards and firing squads. The people who make it a point to show up at meetings. The people who work in the kitchen over hot stoves for events like Paddy’s Day. Those who prepare for, set up, man the doors and clean up after events like Thanksgiving Eve. I could go on and on, so please do not take offense if I missed you. The point is that I do not have to do anything to promote service to God. Our Post members take care of that themselves. Remember that our community has benefitted greatly from American Legion Post 54. We are a force for good. And furthering that good is as simple as showing up.
