Thor: The Dark World, in a word: EPIC! The sequel to 2011s Thor continues where last years Avengers film left off. Thors back in Asgard, Lokis in prison, & the realms are in chaos after Bifrost (the rainbow bridge connecting the realms)s destruction. This time around, Asgards ancient enemy, the Dark Elves, have returned for vengeance just as the dimensions align (causing strang phenomena on Earth). First thing I have to mention is that the scenes are breathtaking. You can see the attention to detail as you are taken around Asgard in a few key action sequences. My hats off to the visual effects personnel who brought the amazing climactic battle amid the portals to life. As a comic book fan, I loved seeing more of The Warriors Three (Thors buddies & brothers in arms) as well as Sif (thank heavens they didnt do the love triangle bit). Oh, it was also cool to see one of Thors early comic enemies come to life (the huge rock warrior) & of course Stan Lees fun cameo. A key component that edges this film ahead of Man of Steel is the touch of humor sprinkled across the film to break up the melodrama & tension. Another thing I enjoyed was seeing Tom Hiddleston step into Lokis horns once again. He easily stole the show. Obviously Im recommending this film with two thumbs (& two toes) high up. Action, adventure, a little comedy & romance, and world-shattering combat. It may be a tad brutal for the young kiddies though so parents, use your best judgment. PS: its so good I may watch it again in 3D this time. Greenhills Atmos theaters were all booked in advance. ;)
