Those of us, who have served as police officers, and it does not - TopicsExpress

Those of us, who have served as police officers, and it does not matter if it was Federal, State, Local, or Military...........already know that taking a person into custody is one of the most dangerous activities that law enforcement can take part in. It does not matter if it is a misdemeanor arrest activity, or an felony arrest. Only the person being arrested knows if he/she have committed a crime of greater moral turpitude, or not! Fortunately........most arrest are conducted without the need of a firearm, or other less than lethal items, often times available to modern law enforcement. Then again, there are those who just dont want to submit to being arrested by a lawful authority. This is when things get hairy, in a hurry! Police officers are trained to effect the arrest as quickly as possible, while endangering the person who is being arrested as little as possible. Of course that means the safety of the officers is a priority. It really doesnt matter that people dont want to go to jail! So people dont want to be arrested because they know that if they are taken into custody, it would be discovered that they are involved in a greater crime. Some realize that going to jail again........means a fourth conviction, which means a longer time behind bars! When things go wrong at the scene of an arrest, it now appears to be in fashion.......to point the finger at the police. We understand that.......what the heck, we knew the job was dangerous when we took it. Still, there is no need to use force........when the subject is cooperating! Those arrest.........well........they somehow never make the news.......wonder why? There are those........who would equate the incident in Ferguson, MO, and NY City, as it is bash the police time again. Much of which, is a simple misunderstanding of Police Procedure, and an understanding of what force is acceptable in effecting an arrest. Civilians just dont understand what their police can, and cant do. Furthermore, it would seem that they dont want to know! It would appear that there are a lot of people out there.......who seem to think that we should let a suspect walk, because he or she is putting up some resistance to being arrested. The police, are the first leg of the Criminal Justice stool. If the police can not, if they are prevented from making lawful arrest, then the stool falls! There are only so many factors that police have control over, when effecting an arrest. The first is the training, and policies of the department governing an arrest. The skill, and tools provided by the department, and/or those approved by the department that the officer themselves pay for.........yes, that is more common than you might think! Those factors that cannot be controlled, the mental state of the suspect, the physical health of the suspect, what additional motivations he/she might have to comply, or resist arrest. Remember, the police is a reactionary force at best. We get the call, or on view the crime, and react to the situation. If the suspect peacefully submits, all is well. When they resist, which can, and does take on a whole variety of different forms! Standard commands such as stop, get on the ground, turn-around put your hands behind your back, take your hands out of your pockets, and the list goes on. Must be complied to, quick, fast, and in a hurry. Such delays never bode well for officer, or suspect. They are often used to gain advantage on the officer, which can devolve into a physical fight........in which a gun is in the fight! Most officers understand that a willingness to physically fight with an armed, sworn, officer, gives the officer a real understanding that their life is in serious danger, or in danger or serious bodily harm...........use of deadly force in such situations can be warranted! A failure to comply, can be seen as a delay in putting your hand behind your back when told. If you are one of those persons, so dense that you want an explanation for your arrest........well it can just as easily be conducted while you are handcuffed, in the back seat of the patrol car, or paddy wagon! You are secure, the officers are secured, and those question prior to the non-incident, would have not changed a darn thing. As I stated before, millions of arrest are conducted each year! Only a hand-full results in even minor injury, and fewer in the death of the perp! There is an concerted effort by a vocal, but small group. They are located in high office, well connected, and well funded. They wish to destroy this nations justice system.........you see, this is a must for them! With a lawless society, with a citizenry that has no respect for the law, or those who enforce it...........leads to their happy place! That happy place is Anarchy! I want all bad cops out of the game, to be arrest, charged, and thrown under the jail! I have no problem with an investigation being conducted on the Federal level! Let the process continue........just a word of advice. When the Feds fail to gain the rabble-rousers what they want...........dont expect them to be any more accept-ant of the system then either! Although they are being promised the world, by the Sharpton muck rakers, by the Obama administration.........they will never be satisfied until we have no justice, no society, with them holding the reins of power!
