Those of you who have been on my friends list since I started - TopicsExpress

Those of you who have been on my friends list since I started using Facebook are probably familiar with my former dry humor, if not outright salacious posts. Over the years I gradually reduced that till I simply stopped. I would like to say the sole reason I stopped is maturity, but it is not. Its the main reason, but not the only one. You see, I still have that sense of humor (albeit in better taste now), but theres always that one person who takes what I say on here way too seriously. It could either be a complete stranger from a comment section or a pages post or a close friend or family member. Its unrealistic to expect everyone to be able to interpret your intended tone behind your written words. Facebook logs everything you say (even if you delete it) or look at. Facebook stalking your ex? Im sure Facebook has a counter for every time you look at that (or anyones). Post your drama on Facebook even if you set who can view it to friends only? Im sure if youre applying for work, a company can pay to have access to that information. I know for a fact Ill never be able to run for a high political office with some of the troll comments I said when I was still a teenager. Even if I deleted my account, it will still be there. The social repercussions are too exhausting to deal with (even if I didnt care), and as I get older I have less and less time to use this. Ive learned my lesson the hard way that you should never air out your dirty laundry here lest you burn a bridge. I urge all of you to be careful about what views you express and how you express them. Now the repercussions are not just social, but legal as well. When youre angry at someone, before you post first ask yourself is it worth adding fuel to the fire? Will you still be angry in a year, a month, a week, or even tomorrow when you wake up? Most of your friends on here are probably acquaintances which is just half a step past being a stranger. The best policy here is to act happy-go-lucky. Theres a reason you have friends and family, those are the people you want to confide in. I know its hard to think clearly when youre angry, heck, I might even break down and whine on here if I have a bad enough day (Lord knows Ive come close a few times), but if you stop and pause for a moment then you may prevent a bad situation from becoming worse. [This concludes my study break.]
