Those of you who know me well, know that Im generally only on this - TopicsExpress

Those of you who know me well, know that Im generally only on this thing to check on my kids and get the latest pictures of my granddaughter, but since Ive had to read about everybody elses cats and drunken escapades, I figured what the hell. (Yes Mr. Clara that is a very long sentence. You taught me better.) Friday morning I stood out in the freezing sleet to pay tribute to a fallen Champion. I stood shoulder to shoulder with men and woman of whose culture I am part of, but on the fringes at best. None of them treated me that way. Big men, many of them 64, 65 in pressed uniforms and shined boots. Men that if you met them in the coarse of their business day, would scare the hell out of you. Im sure from a distance it all looked very professional. Moving with military like precision, from a distance it all looked text book, but I could see something you couldnt, their eyes. Every one of those officers was cognizant of the fact, it could have just as easily been them in that box. Every one of those officers was absolutely heart broken for officer Champions wife and son. It turns out they are human. They are husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, daughters, sons, and parents. I think we forget that sometimes as a culture. Three more of them were murdered last week. I dont get the recent antipolice sentiment in this country. My head just wont go around it. If every cop in the nation took next Tuesday off, it would be remembered in the history books as the worst Tuesday ever. That thin blue line is the only thing between us and complete anarchy. Lets stand up and show our support for them. Lets show the knuckleheads luting the Toys-R-Us in protest that not everyone feels the same way they do. Do they have a point, maybe. Are they going about it the right way, no. So the next time you are awakened from a warm bed by a siren that meets you through the freezing rain, remember there is a police, fire, or EMS crew on the other side of it. Men and woman just doing what they do so you can go to Sheetz in the morning and buy your lotto ticket. Shake their hand, thank them for there service. They deserve it, trust me. They are my brothers and sisters. Sorry if that got preachy. Its been a long week.
