Those that know me well know I have ridden bike for most of my life,sometimes seriously sometimes for fun. I have never understood the attitude of some motorists towards cyclists,we are particularly vulnerable on the roads and do have every right to be there. I dont believe registering bikes or licensing riders will help I believe education is the key,remember most cyclists are motorists and most motorists are not cyclists I know of cyclists who have had to abandon there bikes into a ditch at speed because of an oncoming car, I dont know of a motorist abandoning his car because of an oncoming bicycle. When a car passes at speed and gives no room on the road the turbulence sucks us into the centre of the carriageway and the following car then abuses us. The most experienced hardened rider can not avoid this. Cyclists yes you can ride 2 abreast legally but if you are on a narrow twisty road keep an eye and an ear open,fall into single file and wave cars through. Groups that form if you are a large group keep spaces allowing vehicles to pass through,you will make more friends this way. Interestingly most overseas pro riders fell safe riding in Europe and not in Australia . When I was marshalling for Cycling sa a traffic police officer was assisting these are his words 90% of cyclists are good on the roads 10% are bad,,90% of motorbike riders are bad on the roads 10% are good I know you will all have opinions and thats fine and I will not enter into a keyboard battle Cheers everyone and just imagine if the person you love the most in your life was on that bike in front of you maybe then your thoughts would change
