Those who know me well know that Im not the gambling type. I dont generally take big risks, I dont like investing in an outcome that cant be guaranteed. A bit over five years ago, I started gambling. I made a 50-dollar wager with eHarmony that Id click with an Elon student who wanted to be a family counselor and was just back from a semester abroad in Ireland. I bet several miles of gas and car wear, several hours of time, and my personal well-being on a few occasions, on continuing to enjoy her company and keeping her interested in me. I doubled down on that bet when she decided to go to grad school in Williamsburg, Virginia. Two years later, I wagered the roots Id laid in the town where I was born that I would be happier living in a new town with her. I bet my already questionable sanity that I could survive a week in a beach house with her mothers side of the family. Soon after, I bet a diamond ring that she would agree to spend the rest of her life with me. Five years ago, I started gambling. And Ive hit the jackpot each step of the way.
