Those who remember 24 years ago, I got suspicious when they removed me from flight status. Then they handed me orders for Drill Instructor Duty and told me, after that, I was going to the Horn of Africa for three years (another story). I could no longer fly in anything (backseat of Harrier or in my beloved Osprey we were developing at the time), yet, I was going to the most demanding training duty the Corps had to offer. When I got out, mercifully, I found out why. By 1996 I had only 5% feeling from the waste down and was looking at paralysis and a life in a wheel chair. Fortunately, in 1992, I made a decision to research neurological disorders and started on a path to turn that around instead of going on disability. I always promised, once I hit the wall and went as far as I could with the research, I would reveal how I prevented a life of ungodly pain or merciful paralysis.
