Those who say that billionaires pay at a much lower rate than you and me choose to ignore that fact that there are millions of low income people in this country who PAY NOTHING, use the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and get a check from the IRS! They also conveniently overlook the fact that even though billionaires pay at a much lower rate, THEY PAY MORE than you or me. Self serving Congressmen enact the EITC and other such in order to buy the votes of the low income and to reduce the middle class. Socialist politicians want more poor people dependent on them for government handouts. The reason the Socialists and Progressives in Congress have not and will not close the tax exemptions for the rich is because their goal is for the political elites themselves to be among the rich. The only fair system of taxation would be the elimination of all deductions and exemptions and the implementation of a FLAT TAX on all individual and corporate income. Those who receive only benefits from government, and none of the tax burden, have no stake in insuring that government be frugal and effective in the use of the people’s money.
