Those who were praying for Joal Stanfield (local teacher who passed away this evening) must continue praying. • for his family and the grief they feel over the loss of a son, husband, and father • for his wife, not just today but everyday as her life is so drastically changed • for his children who will mourn and wrestle with this for the rest of their lives • for those who might be discouraged that their prayers were not realized in healing • for his students that are so young and may not have been touched this closely by death before • for his athletes who are so vulnerable in their teen years to tragedies of this sort • for our community that we would remember everyday to say thanks and show appreciation to those who touch our lives • for his co-workers and the counselors as they help the children from his classes process what happened • for all those who might misunderstand God and why he does or does not intercede sometimes in this broken world Whenever faith is stretched thin from tragedy, I remember Jesus words to those who were confused over the deaths of others in Luke 13. He didnt try to explain away what happened or give empty comforts, but told them that tragedy should cause us to look to our own lives and consider if we are in right relationship with God.
