Though I enjoy being the instigator (through humor that is not - TopicsExpress

Though I enjoy being the instigator (through humor that is not enjoyable for all!), I feel that there is a need to discuss what is a correct ethical code for a quality book-club and make it formal. While putting up advertisements of travel companies or marriage-portals are obviously acts of those who have no idea what a book is and no real consensus is needed to throw them out, I am more curious about the aspect of self-promotion of books by authors. This is a tricky area, as, in e-era, books need to ride the internet medium for spread. There is also a big issue of self-publishing authors who are at a great disadvantage due to lack of publicity infrastructure that they cant afford. But, on the other hand, I see posts ranging from blatant self-adulation to inane I-gave-the-book-to-obama that are really not suiting my notion that books must succeed on merit and nothing else. I suggest a way to help authors who want to use book-club without them and us losing the dignity that books must possess. Any author wishing to promote his/her book must communicate his/her desire to the moderator in a prescribed format (based on what can and what cant appear on the wall of book-club). This can even evolve to a small group of members turning into evaluators or critics. Author can send a copy and request the group to put comments on book-club. This is needed to move into a position of quality-brand for this book-club that I am very optimistic about. An added advantage of this would be my termination of the Ph-lowering agent of this club!!!
