Though hard to watch, this documentary produces incontrovertible evidence that the United States directly contributed to the promotion of the sectarian war that continues in Iraq. With the direct knowledge of Vice President Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld appointed an apparent sociopath named Col. James Steele, who had formerly directed El Salvadorean special operations to supervise Special Police Commandos attached to the Iraqi Interior Ministry. The latter operated against Sunni insurgents as torturers and death squads. Not only did Steele participate in this, the commander of the multinational force in Iraq, General David Petreaus, also knew about it and praised these interior police. Eventually the Special Police Commando became the strong arm of the Al-Maliki government, and this brings us up to current history. It is well known that Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld, as well as those under their direct command committed war crimes. Much to his discredit, Obama chose not to persecute them, and much to the discredit of purported U.S. support of human rights. Lets hope that this does not continue as the wars in Syria and Iraq go forward. And lets also hope that the Bush administration eventually is held accountable. But I wouldnt hold my breath.
