You might remember him as the dude with the very low voice from the 7Up commercials in the seventies, but he was so much more talented than most people remember. Ive only seen the Dance Theater of Harlem perform once in my life. I saw Firebird, sometime in the eighties, with a group of my San Francisco roommates. At the time I was young and had no idea that Geoffrey Holder had designed those costumes. But when I close my eyes right now, I remember that Firebird was gorgeous; rich and vibrant with bold colors that I can still see, even thirty years later.
