You have little way of knowing that your wife or husband will be stricken with illness or become lost to you for long, lonely seasons in the dense fog of depression. The tender ways they once expressed their love to you may be impossible for them to summon up any more. The scales of servanthood may tip heavily in your direction, now and for the rest of your life. If you and your spouse are in good physical and emotional health, promise each other–ahead of any such issues–that no need or request on their part will ever be too great for your love. And if love is already demanding that you honor your mate by serving them through sickness, do so with generous joy and gratitude. You are living proof that Gods love is alive and well, having redeemed your life from sins decay, and inspiring the same sacrificial love in your heart for your mate.
