Though not of the last-standing person but Salmaan Taseer’s - TopicsExpress

Though not of the last-standing person but Salmaan Taseer’s place in history is specifically of the one who in a highly crucial time and risky space courageously represented the last-standing ‘presence’ that has negatively been depicted in the hegemonic state discourse and brutally been treated by the sponsored defender of ‘Islam in danger’. The need of theoretical clarity suggests the truth to be told that nowhere the religious fanatics have challenged the writ of the state but the state, in and of itself, has been strategically willing to hand over its writ to the fanatics, who in their private sphere enjoy the very secular standard of life. Salmaan Taseer was assassinated by the state and ‘its role of law’. His assassination has particularly nothing to do with any social sick mentality but it was done by the state in a very organic and modern sense of politics. Mumtaz Qadari belongs to an educated, urban and modern grounding and he has been declared hero by the people and media of the same grounding that can manage politics calculatedly in the modern sense of the state affairs. I mean to say that Taseer’s assassination was a strictly political one; not something caused by any emotional and fanatical outrage. Taseer was not the victim of misuse of religion but he was victimized by the religion. That is the state religion. That is the state religion of Jinnah’s Pakistan.
