Though the World Cup is the most widely viewed and followed sporting event in the world - exceeding even the Olympic Games - not everyone is allowed to enjoy this international competition. The freedom to cheer for your team is a precious privilege in many parts of the world. In the Raqa province of Syria, controlled by jihadist group the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), one young activist and avid football fan said, Members of ISIS raided the cafeterias on the first day of the World Cup, and forced the young people to go pray. Abu Ibrahim, a Brazil fan, is one of the few in Raqa who dares to communicate with the outside world about his opposition to ISIS, which has a reputation for abuses including summary executions and kidnappings. They want everything to be sad and bleak. But I love life and I love football, Abu Ibrahim told AFP via the Internet. #Syria #worldcup #football #Brazil #Raqa #raid #gratitude #courage #teamspirit #soccer #Olympics #Syrian #Syrians #RioveyFilms #Riovey #activist #activism #soldiers #footballfans #soccerfans #fans #game
