Though the poverty line is dictated by the economy within which it - TopicsExpress

Though the poverty line is dictated by the economy within which it exists and is therefore only a relative measure; it is none-the-less real to the citizens of that economy no matter how rich or poor. Poverty in the US might be a source of gallows humor in Ethiopia or somewhere poorer, but it is very real to the people living it in the US. Poverty to most defines their self worth, the value of their lives, the value of life, as wealth does others. (Interesting, to me, that people of poverty view the value of most peoples lives the same as the people of wealth; they value life as low to worthless.)
