Bayelsa govt dismisses threat to Patience Jonathan Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has dismissed threats by a youth group warning Nigeria’s first lady, Patience Jonathan, not to visit the state. The group, “Bayelsa Youth Vanguard” had warned the first lady not to accompany her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan on his visit to Bayelsa for campaigns and accused her of causing disunity among youth in Rivers state where she hails from. Governor Dickson, while reacting to a reports credited to a group, described the publication as most unfortunate and uncalled for. The governor said the threat had just been brought to his attention and maintained that the government and the people of the state will accord President Goodluck Jonathan, his wife, and other members of the first family their due honour, respect when they visit. The governor warned groups planning to cause any breach of the peace by attacking Mrs. Jonathan to have a rethink. Mr. Dickson said violence is unnecessary and against the collective will and aspirations of the government and people of Bayelsa. He called for the unity of all groups and association in the state. The Bayelsa State Governor warned anyone singing discordant tunes to desist as security agencies have been alerted to deal decisively with anybody or group of persons who would attempt to disrupt the planned PDP campaign rally slated for the February 5 in Yenagoa, the state capital. He expressed regret over the embarrassment the said publication would have caused President Jonathan and his wife, Patience, and urged the general public to disregard the publication in its entirety saying as it was coming from the opposition. - Premium Times
