Thought I could add something to the question about which is the best way to get to Cooma from Victoria. Basically, imo if you are starting anywhere East of Melbourne, you best route is to Bairnsdale then on to Cann River and North through Bombala to Cooma. Cann River to Bombala is 90kms of good sealed road but bushy on either side so best in daylight if possible. Starting from Melbourne or anywhere West of there, your best route is straight up the Hume Highway until after Tarcutta where you turn right towards Adelong, Tumut, Talbingo, Adaminaby and Cooma. Tarcutta to Cooma is 250kms and estimated to take 3 hours so you get the idea. It is a good well sealed road but slower due to the kinks and curves as you climb up and over the Great Dividing Range. Watch for brumbies around Kiandra and otherwise, enjoy the views from the rooftop of Australia. Hope this helps. The Show Committees would love to host our Victorian friends.
