Thought I would share - I have ranch land in the Okanogan - TopicsExpress

Thought I would share - I have ranch land in the Okanogan Highlands of Washington State. I built a nice little cabin there I sometimes stay at and work ( and have a few acres around it closed off by barb wire to keep the range cattle out. It is a open range area. The last few years I have had a increasing number of horses moving in. Not real Wild horses in the technical sense, but rather other peoples former horses they could not sell from breeding or afford to take care of anymore with the recession and price of hay going sky high the last few years. These all look to be Quarter Horse blood. I counted 14 horses, 4 colts from this year and a few obviously pregnant mares. I dont mind them up there right now as the numbers are low…but it only takes a few more years of breeding to have a out of control situation. It is a complex issue..many people passionately feel wild horses should never be rounded up off the range. Or dont realize that private individuals like me are also impacted by this issue. I have worked very hard to take care of this land, especially after a forest fire came thru it 8 years ago. It has been back breaking work rehabilitating it. I love horses and have devoted my life to them. But…I also cannot have my land destroyed with out of control breeding. So pretty they are there now….but I also know in the future when they are rounded up…I will end up being called the villain for doing so. Its a no win situation not of my making. The dark bay and gray are the band stallions - unusual to have two stallions like this running a herd. Photos were taken from my porch yesterday.
