Thought I would share my experiences with Sauer Castle. My dad - TopicsExpress

Thought I would share my experiences with Sauer Castle. My dad was friends with Paul Berry, I believe Paul made his money from a oil refinery or something to do with oil. As a kid in the 70s I was able to go through the house a few times. I do know that Paul was a very honest religious but blunt & stubborn man and kept to himself. I dont think he ever married or had children. Paul would only go in the main parts of the house during the day. He swore the house was very haunted. he said he never believed in that type of thing till he bought the house. He loved old things and antiques. At night Paul said the house was very active. he would hear people talking, laughing and furniture moving things slamming & banging. He was scared enough that he had a heavy door in the kitchen with padlock. He would lock him self in the kitchen with his gun, bible, big dogs and slept on a cot. he said even his big mean dogs did not want to go in the main parts of the house at night and they would shake with fear. He told stories of furniture being moved in the morning. he had a antique stage coach or car? I cant remember what it was. It was big & heavy he had moved to a second floor bedroom with great difficulty for storage. I remember the look of shock on his face when he said the next morning it was neatly setting on the first floor. He also said he was dealing with a lot of vandals and break ins and he never knew witch did the moving of objects and noise. He said some of what he was hearing could of been vandals. but other times there was not signs of being broken into and everything was still locked up. I did see in the basement there was an area like a dungeon. with wood doors with a square hole cut out like a small window and bars over it. and rusty chains on the wall with hand cuffs. I think it was maybe for Slaves? I am not much of a believer in ghost. but the day he showed me the basement, he was getting nervous because it was late in the day and he said he wanted me to be safe. I had goose bumps by the time I left the basement. I never saw the tower he was dealing with a bat infestation. The big old fireplace was beautiful. What a lot of people did not know was that Paul was in some type of Auction / bid war when he bought the house. The land was split in to 2 parts he was in a bid war for both propertys and he won the main house but not the back half of the land witch he lost to Jim Cadillac Pearson That portion of land had a horse stable carriage house and what was referred to as a slaves quarters and was heavily wooded. Jim and Paul never got along because they were both angry the property was split they both wanted the whole thing and blamed the other for getting in the way. We were friends with both Paul & Jim but never spoke of the other in front of them! Jim his wife Louise and children lived in the slaves quarters for years. I spent the night there with their daughter a lot. It was way back in the woods behind the castle you could not see it from the street. There was a long dirt or gravel drive off a side street. It was also full of wonderful antiques and Jim was an avid antique car collector / Restorer especially antique Cadillacs. and he even had a Cadillac emblem embedded on his front tooth. Jim said that the carriage house had a tunnel that was bricked up and said he would give any one a $100. to spend the night there. in the 70s that was a lot. he said many tried but could not do it. They claimed there would be a low squealing noise that would get louder through the night. It would get so loud it would be unbearable. I also remember A creek that ran threw the woods we would play in. The old horse stables had a huge tree growing in the middle of it. I think it was built around the tree. All the years I played around the property I never experienced any paranormal activity but found it odd both owners claimed it was haunted. As a kid I was always on the look out.
