Thought I would share the first page of a novella Ive been working on: My name is Averis and I have known what is to live, but more importantly I have known what it is to die. My life was never anything spectacular. Sure, I had accomplishments and beautiful things happened, but the life I lived and the people I loved in that life were not nearly as fulfilling as how I died. That’s right, I’m dead. No, Im not in Heaven. Do you really think that God would invest in Microsoft Word in Heaven? Although, I suppose with that reasoning I could be in Hell, but I’m not. I am not talking metaphorically either, though I would be lying if I said there wasn’t a certain philosophical nature to my death. My life did end, my breath stopped going in and out of my lungs and my heart did stop beating and it hasnt beaten since, so this is not some mere near death experience. I’m dead. Dead as a doornail. This computer in front of me has more electrical activity than the fingers pounding out the words you’re reading. Before you start getting any grandiose ideas, I do not have fangs, I don’t crave brains and I don’t have someone else’s body parts sewn to my body. I am not going to go and sweep some fair maiden off her feet with my vampire hands in some ridiculous paranormal romance, though I can’t say I wouldn’t like that. However, that would be undead, I’m not undead, I’m just dead. The stupid little parrot on Mr. Cotton’s shoulder chimes “Dead men tell no tales.”, well, I’m here to prove otherwise. These are the stories of my death and the days that have followed.
