Thought Id ask the group for some advice. Recently moved to Tebebasi street, next to Kasimpasa stadium. First of all, theres a family of kitties living in one of the side streets. The kittens are at the right age for adoption, if anyone is up for doing a rescue/adoption mission. Two of the kittens seem to have an eye condition but appear to not have deteriorated during the past 12 days. The mother is friendly but the babies still a bit timid. Someone had installed a fairly well made cat-shelter (box, wrapped in a black plastic bag), in the vacant lot where the family lives, but a couple of days ago the box was gone. I came across the box next to the neighborhoods garbage bins, returned it to its place only to see the box gone again this morning. It appears someone doesnt like the kitties. (fortunately there are lots of accessible cellars around to provide shelter, now that the kitties are about big enough to jump and climb) Secondly, there are two dogs that worry me a bit. One appears to be a husky mix, seems to hang out mostly around a grocery store on Camadan sk. and get along fine with the people and cats of the neighborhood. A cuddly guy who appears to be getting food from here and there. However, he does not have a tag in his ear and his package seems to still be intact. Also, theres a Rottweiler who hangs around the Kasimpasa stadium parking lot. It appears the people there dont know if he has an owner. Most of those Ive talked to think hes a street dog but one thought there was a boy who owned the dog. Uncharacteristically for the breed this one is very friendly with strangers, and gets along well with the husky mix when they run into each other. The Rottie seems to be in his place more irregularly than the Husky mix, either because he moves around or he actually does have a home. Again no tags in the ear and the puppy-maker is still fully operational. Oh, and he seems to be a bit stupid around traffic. Once he decided to just sit down on the middle of Tepebasi sk. So, what to do? I figure the husky mix will do fine, but I worry about the Rottie if only because his fur wont provide much warmth during winter. For their health and for puppy prevention Id like to have both of them vaccinated and neutered. I understand the city govt. is monitoring the street dogs - is there a number to call or will that just make things worse? Im wondering if its a good idea to buy a cheap collar from Anipoli to write on a phone number along with instructions like if this is your dog, give us a call, otherwise well be having him spayed and vaccinated. Should mention that if anyone in this group ever wanted a handsome Rottweiler here is the guy for you. A cuddly and friendly charmer who gets along just fine with the cats who share the street with him. Ive attached a picture of Mr. Handsome getting his chin scratched. Ill be adding a picture of the Husky mix and the kitty family when they make themselves available for photos.
