Thought Id give my friends the heads up about our trip to the Dominican. Loved the company of Skip and Melanie and the 2 excursions we booked in advance for our families but overall the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth (no food poisoning pun intended). 1. We stayed at the Grand Palladium Bavaro in Punta Cana, an all inclusive resort. Beautiful on the outside, rooms left some to be desired. Beds were hard as a rock. Shower had mold in it. Room was either sweltering or freezing, no matter the setting. Bar in the room contained 4 cans of beer, 2 waters, 2 sodas. 2. It had 3 resorts in 1. Our pool had a swim up bar but it was tough to get service. Especially with kids jumping off the stools. You want beer? You get 1 choice, El Presente. Like Coors Light but less taste. I found a turd in the pool (!!!), notified staff and THEY KEPT THE POOL OPEN. Only after going to management did they finally close the pool and (I assume) shock it. 3. Not many activities on the resort itself; they wanted to sell you excursions, etc instead. They allowed trinket vendors to set up EVERYWHERE. You couldnt swing a dead cat without one of them running up to shove a crappy necklace in your hand to get you to come to their table. I got 5 of em. 4. Food was not good. Buffet style unless you got in line at 5:30-6:00 at one if the fancy restaurants. And not one restaurant was worth standing in line; the steakhouse is where I think I got food poisoning. And we waited 90 minutes for the food.
