Thought Id share the email update sent to the salmonwatchers today: Hello Salmonwatchers, We are still getting reports of both coho and chum continuing up our creeks. And yay! Its raining again! I saw 6 chum at my spot on lower Judd yesterday. Our Salmonwatchers page has been updated. Make sure to check out Peter Cummings cool video compilation and the photo album as well as the on-going tally: vashonnaturecenter.org/salmonwatchers/ Kelly has some more great videos too. I will try to get those up soon. FISHER: Jill Andrews reported secondhand two unidentified fish swimming up Fisher a few weeks ago. I went out there to look but couldnt find them for an identification. Thanks to Salmonwatcher Mary Shackelford for doing your extra time trying to find them too! CHUM: Luke Petersen saw the first and only chum in Shinglemill (anyone seen anymore?) on the 7th of November. Kelly Keenan saw the first chum in Judd on the 15th of November. COHO: Greg R. and Hooper H. both recently reported coho migrating up Judd and John Rupp and I saw a coho in Shinglemill last Thursday. So these guys are still coming up. ORCAS: We have been getting some visits from the superpod of resident Orcas (JKL all traveling together) likely indicating more chum around our shores right now. This could be a good time to check the mystery creeks that we think are navigable to salmon but havent gotten any sightings in the last few years. Orcas spent some time in Colvos yesterday so those of you with spots at Christensen and Cove and Shinglemill especially stay tuned in....Id love it if someone could check Ellis creek too in Tramp Harbor.... BIRDS: This is another really great thing about salmonwatching. You guys see so much other useful stuff! Kathryn True found a black turnstone at Shinglemill and Kelly, Peter and I have all been seeing the American dipper regularly this season in the lower reaches of Judd! Thanks again for all your observations out there and remember....dont be like this fish and eat too much this weekend.... theonion/articles/obese-salmon-unable-to-swim-upstream-to-spawn,30373/ Happy thanksgiving everyone, Bianca
