Thought-Warping Movie Interstellar is a movie you cant claim to - TopicsExpress

Thought-Warping Movie Interstellar is a movie you cant claim to have fully understood without indulging in some intellectual pretense & claims of loving Physics till now. Chances are, you might have actually been so glad at one point in your life to have been over & done with it, but not when you get to see the movie when the theory of relativity, wormhole, black hole, event horizon, singularity, time warping, quantum physics, not to mention some almost unfathomable concepts in metaphysics will haunt you & remind you that youre actually not an astrophysicist or rocket scientist and this very intellectually humbling realization will embarrass you enough to the point that you would want to go to the library right in the middle of the film. The movie is artistically & cinematically very good though, & given the subject matter it attempts to explore and the major concepts about science & life itself that it attempts to put across, it is not laughable. It manages to achieve a certain level of realism despite the fact that its dealing with concepts that are utterly far-fetched. Its only drawback for me is the fact that it doesnt have any amount of sympathy for the feeble-minded, and it doesnt stoop down to IQ level below above average. Its writer & director must have tons of intellectual snobbery & elitism. Sorry for making the movie sound formidable but it really is. To assure you, all you have to realize is that its plot is simple, linear even: . that the earth is about to die . that humanity had to be transported from the earth to somewhere else to save our own kind & DNA for posterity .that some people had to follow up on prior space mission that tried to find out whether there are earthlike planets somewhere in another galaxy to transport mankind to .that to get to that part of the universe which is thousands of lightyears away, the team of scientists must find some shortcut in the universe that will freeze time for them & get them there before their resources run up .that they had to find a way to communicate back to earth how to get there since they can not possibly go back to earth as planned .but how to? Once you make sense that the movie is only telling this but does so like a physics teacher using superb visual aids & storytelling skills attempting to explain the relationship among time, gravity, the universe and the inexplicable, then youd enjoy the movie. Tips: do not force yourself to understand certain concepts right then & there or youd either fall asleep, get lost or have severe tension headache. Trust me. Your comprehension of the movie will come to you a few hours after the movie has ended. It pays to read about some physics concepts prior to the movie. Expect to lose your sense of object permanence & time after watching it. I even thought by the time Id get home, Coco & Angie had died many years ago & what Id come home to are her descendants, superdogs that have evolved through the years and the 7th generation of Angies children. And this is true: the movie even stopped at that point when the mission came near the blackhole Gargantua. See how immense gravity is in a blackhole hewn out of a superstar that caves in on itself its gravity is too strong it warps time, bends the light and stops the movie halfway through? Anyway, the movie ended around 6pm and the queue to either taxi or PUV was so long I decided to go home via a wormhole! More about the movie tomorrow as Im too sleepy and this is all thats left of my badly oppressed brain!
