Thought for the Day: In my new Masters Degree program in American - TopicsExpress

Thought for the Day: In my new Masters Degree program in American history (fully accredited, completely on-line), all the grad students are asked to complete various readings during the week- and then post their synopsis in a Forum at least twice, also posting responses to what others have written. Im finding it interestng and challenging at the same time. The last time I was in grad school was 1997- the internet was just getting big and e-mail was starting to get popular. I had the benefit of being able to physically address and talk with all my professors- face to face- and make sure I understood their requirements first hand. Now, in this on-line environment, its almost completely via the Internet and e-mails. I understand- thats the intent of the program, but it is a bit of a change in mindset. I realize Im wayyyy old fashioned by the standards of young people today, whod rather spend hours playing video games or trolling the Internet than go face to face with a professor. Many dont even call their friends or family anymore- they TEXT, preferring a quick alpha-numeric post to hearing someones voice. Weve raised an entire generation who feel closer to a machine than to another human being... but I say Wake up and smell the coffee... This is the way things are going, so to be in the flow, you have to go with it... https://youtube/watch?v=okHAmAxztNk&list=PLfz7hIiPtS3_UxW_FHniARvDwxIXwo-DZ&index=4
