Thought for the Day: Now I desire to remind you, though you - TopicsExpress

Thought for the Day: Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe. Jude 5 The account of our Lord’s miraculous deliverance of His people from their bitter bondage in Egypt is indeed a fascinating one. Moses and his brother Aaron would appear before Pharaoh and demand that the people be allowed to leave and Pharaoh would refuse and with each refusal, the people’s labors were made more difficult. The Lord sent plagues on the land of Egypt, the water became blood, frogs covered the land, gnats – swarms of them, pestilence on the cattle of the Egyptians, hail, locusts, thick darkness, and finally the death of the first-born in every house which did not have the blood of the lamb on the door-posts (Exodus 5 – 12); and then Pharaoh and his people insisted the people of God leave the land. After receiving God’s laws at Mount Sinai, the people were ready to enter the Land of Promise and in preparation, the Lord instructed Moses to send spies into the land to report what the land was like (Numbers 13:1-33); when the twelve spies returned, ten of them claiming the people were giants, the cities were fortified – no way would they be able to take the land, and only two of them, Joshua and Caleb reminded them Who they served and that He would give them the land as He had promised. The people nevertheless received the bad news reports, wept, and refused to follow Moses into the Promised Land. Because of their rebellion, the Lord caused the people to wander in the wilderness for forty years, camping for a few days, weeks, in one place; and then at His command, packing up the camp and moving again, until the entire generation who had rebelled against Him, from twenty years old and upward, had died, except Joshua and Caleb (Numbers 14:28-31). Because of their rebellion, refusal to believe His promises and follow Moses whom He had sent to lead them, the people spent forty years in the wilderness, going to funerals. As Jude reminds us, sometimes rebellion can be fatal and is always expensive, robbing God’s people of the blessings He is willing and able to send to them. Saints, let’s make a new commitment today to hear His precious Word, be quick to obey His Word, and receive His richest blessings, which He so longs to provide for us. Hugs, Betty
