Thought for the night.... Most people look for someone to make - TopicsExpress

Thought for the night.... Most people look for someone to make them happy. Then they put that person in a pressure cooker of great expectations. As expectations arent met, and that person lets you down, you begin to think there must be someone else that can make you happy. This is treating your spouse like a savior, but this line of thinking will bomb 100% of the time. No one is perfect. We all know this, yet most people dont extend the grace required to forgive each other and stay together despite let downs. Hello! We human. We are doomed for failure. We cant ever lean on one person that much. A spouse was never intended to be your savior. Jesus is the only savior. Basically, putting those kind of expectations on a human is idolatry (idolizing your spouse and marriage over God) - putting more expectation on a human to make you happy than you do God. We are to lean on Him for joy, peace and life, not a person. God gave us a marriage to make us holy, not happy. Granted, Ive never been this happy in my life, but it was only after we exposed each others failures and yuck and were forced to deal with it, work through it (instead of run like heck!) and LET God refine us. After the storm, we came out better, stronger, just a little more like Jesus and a lot more in love and happy. If wed only chase holiness as passionately as we chase happiness, ironically, wed all be so much more happy! Sad it took 20 years to figure out, but Im dedicated to spend the next 20 years sharing what we learned to help as many people as possible. When in doubt with your spouse, chase God not people. He will show up and he will bless your socks off in ways you cant imagine. We are living proof. So thankful!!!!
