Thought of the Day - Nov. 1, 2013 Trick or Treat the Day After -Well does your family have an overabundance of candy in the house today? Congratulations if you do. It doesnt get better than chocolate. When you were young, do you remember dumping your bag, plastic pumpkin, or pillow case full of candy all over the floor. The excitement when you saw Mounds, Kit Kat, Hershey, Clark Bar, etc. Then you got that healthy apple. You ate it but it was all about candy. Then as a responsible parent, you would limit your kids to the amount of candy they ate after trick or treating only to break your own rule. After they went to bed I would go through my childrens candy picking out the items I liked and indulging on them. Every year I would eat several (ok more than several) pieces of candy until my stomaches felt extremely full (alright unpleasant) but never learning and doing the same thing the next year. Then the next day my children would say I thought there was more candy than this, only to tell them look there still is plenty of goodies. Growing up Halloween was not as big as it is today. Most costumes were homemade. When I was at that awkward age around 12 and looking older, I thought about what I was going to dress up as. Then it occurred to me, that I was going to be an alien. My girlfriend also went along with this, and amazingly enough she is still one of my best friends today. I borrowed a wig from my aunt. What alien wears a wig, but this one did. Then do you remember the pantyhose that came in a plastic shaped white egg? Somehow that got incorporated into the costume looking like an alien eye. I also covered straws with foil sticking them out through the wig and placed them on the top of my head. That was my costume. Just imagine how goofy I looked. This was very silly, and so much fun creating no matter what the final outcome looked like. It was about fun. What costume do you remember that brought the most smiles? Dont give up on your creative side as sometimes the things we create might seem silly, but end up being one of those unplanned special moments. It is the fun times you spend with friends and family that creates those wonderful memories. So keep creating those moments with friends and family as they will thank you later. It is all about fond MEMORIES. Blessings.
