Thought of the Day: Pick up your mantle In II Kings 2 we find - TopicsExpress

Thought of the Day: Pick up your mantle In II Kings 2 we find the story of Elisha picking up the mantle of Elijah when it fell to the ground when he was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind. What did he do when this happened? It says in verse 12 “he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces”, verse 13 “He also took up the mantle of Elijah.” Over the years I have seen so many people receive new mantle’s from the Lord! Perhaps one of my greatest disappointments is so many of those mantles still haven’t been picked up and if they have been picked up they have been put over the old mantle (old clothing). Thus people are trying to walk in the new still dressed in the old. I know the commentaries say that Elisha tore his clothes over grieving the loss of Elijah. While that may be true I see it that in order to walk in the new you have to tear up the old. You see if we don’t tear up the old we’ll keep putting on the old. The old way of thinking, the old way of ministering – we are such creatures of habit. It’s easier to walk in the old because it’s familiar and comfortable rather than being uncomfortable and believing God for new. New is awkward, it’s taking risks! Jesus said we CAN’T take new wine in put it in a old wine skin or sow new cloth with old cloth. For over two years God has been declaring from Isaiah 43 “behold I do a new thing”; “Don’t remember the former things.” I feel like crying – at times when God shows me things He also allows me to feel His emotion. Pick up your mantle! Perhaps as a prophetic act go into your closet or drawer and find an old shirt (whatever) and pray. As you pray tear the old garment and take the new mantle after you’ve torn the old clothing and declare that you will walk in the new anointing God has given you. Yesterdays anointing will not accomplish the purposes of God for today. I am reluctant to say this but some of you will need to change churches. I was with someone on Wednesday and I told them it was time to go back to church! I sent them to another church in the city! As much as I would love them to come to the Porch I said don’t come to the Porch but go to another church that I believe is where God will meet the family. The word from Moses to Joshua, “Be strong, be of good courage and do not be afraid” this word continues to be declared from heaven!!! PICK UP YOUR MANTLE!
