Thought of the Day: “Your prayer has been heard” In Luke 1 - TopicsExpress

Thought of the Day: “Your prayer has been heard” In Luke 1 Zacharias the father of John the Baptist was in the Holy of Holies fulfilling his priestly responsibility. We are read in verses 6- 7 “And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years. It says they were doing everything right in fact it says they were “blameless.” Yet in spite of their righteous living they couldn’t have children. It’s a normal day Zacharias is in the temple serving God when out of nowhere he has a divine encounter. Gabriel shows up and says “your prayer has been heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.” Zacharias’ response was “you’ve got to be kidding”; verse 18 it says “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.” Gabriel is convinced it can’t happen. So how old was Zacharias well according to Numbers 8:24-25, the age of service for the Levitical priests was 25 to 50 years old. With 50 being the mandatory retirement age, he would have been a maximum of 49 at his visitation. If his retirement was within the next 9 months he would have been 50 at Johns birth. He and Elizabeth had to have been praying 30 years or so. Now after years of praying, living in disappointment and suffering ridicule by friends, family and probably colleagues because people were assuming she was barren because of some hidden sin in their lives. We are so like Zacharias we all have prayed for certain deep and personal things for years with no results. We have given up, we see it as impossible and as in verse 20 it says he “did not believe.” Like Gabriel who in verse 19 it says that he “stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you (Zacharias) and bring you these glad tidings.” I want to say to all of you DON’T GIVE UP! Things we have prayed for years is about to be released! Yes verse 37 is still alive for us today, “For with God nothing will be impossible.” Habakkuk 2:3 “For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.” I have been waiting and praying since May 1970 for God to fulfill something He said to me. How long have you been waiting and praying. Like Gabriel I have come from the presence of God and I have good news to tell you! Something is about to happen! “Your prayer has been heard”
