Thought of the Day: “Your work will be rewarded” This quote is taken from II Chronicles 13:7. During this time in Israel verse 5 says there was no peace in Israel in fact it says there was great turmoil. It sounds like our lives at different times. So every where they turned there was turmoil. In the midst of turmoil we need to some divine direction. In verse 8 Asa who was king at the time got a prophetic word from Obed who was the prophet that had spoken to the king earlier in his reign. The word given to Asa was “but you be strong and do not let your hands be weak, for your work will be rewarded.” Here are some keys that we can glean from this word when we are in the midst of turmoil. The first thing said was very specific – “you be strong”. We cannot rely on anyone else. No matter what people are doing around us the word is we have to be strong. Everyone else might be falling apart but the Sprit says “you be strong.” That means we have to determine that no matter what I’m going to be strong, I’m going to do what’s right. If I am to be strong then God will enable me to be strong. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I have told people no matter what others do around you we must do what is right. The second part of the word was “do not let your hands be weak.” The prophetic word is saying ok you are to be strong now do something. Prophetic words need activation! What is it we should do? The first thing Asa did was to remove the idols form the places he governed and he restored the altar of the Lord. The first thing perhaps we should do is to be sure what we have oversight over (this at least we be ourselves) is to remove what doesn’t belong and if necessary rebuild our own altar of worship if it’s in need of repair. There you have it we have to get our lives in order before we can begin to lead others. Where ever there is an open door for the enemy to attach us let’s close the door. In order to take these steps we need to be “strong in the Lord.” Lastly the word says “your work will be rewarded.” Here we see it will take work, real effort! Notice it says “WILL BE REWARDED.” The language implies future tense. Our pitfall is we look for immediate reward. The prophetic promise be strong (God will enable us), do what we can/take action and if we do this God will in His time surely will reward us. The Hebrews 12:6 it says God is not maybe or could be “a rewarder” of those who actively pursue him (his ways and purposes). It is also written in Hebrews 6:10 “For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love.” Whatever our circumstances “be strong and do not let your hands be weak, for YOUR WORK WILL BE REWARDED.” Finally Galatians 6:9 “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
