Thought of the day. We have done our best. Or, I have done - TopicsExpress

Thought of the day. We have done our best. Or, I have done my best. Is that a proud statement? Actually I have stopped saying that for a long time. And I think we all should NOT say it. That statement is never uttered as a celebration of an achievement. It is not a proud statement. It is in fact a statement made to console ourselves when clearly we have failed. That statement is an unequivocal admission that we have failed. And we are trying to pacify ourselves - and hopefully, others who are depending on us - that we have done our best and there is nothing else that we can do, because, well, we have already done our best. Its like a note to self. Dear Self, you have failed. But its okay. You have done your best. Giving or doing your best is good. But it is NOT good enough when you consistently fail. In that event, it is quite clear that your best IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Perhaps at that point, you should stop doing your best. Perhaps you should now give your ALL. If you fail again, you can say, I have given my all. For whatever its worth.
