Thought reform or more commonly brain washing is used in - TopicsExpress

Thought reform or more commonly brain washing is used in everything from advertising to politics. It is also commonly employed by cults and even some orthodox christian groups. The cult I once belonged to encouraged the use of repeatedly thinking God is good, I am blessed, God shall supply all my need. This seems innocent enough right? Faith building too, right? Except when you go to church and the preacher connects blessing to giving money, never missing a service, doing things you dont have time for, etc. What repeating that phrase does is prime you to believe your blessings and even needs will be supplied when you do what the preacher tells you what causes blessing. It also connects anything that might happen that is positive in your life to being that supplied need and thus re-enforce the desired behavior that the religious leader would like you to have. If that behavior is helping the poor, visiting the sick, or something else good then the only real issue is the ethical violation of using thought reform. However, if it is being used to insure you continue to give money, give more money, attend more church, and do more tasks that only benefit the organization then it is a serious matter. I would encourage anyone who thinks that they might be a part of something like this to look into thought reform techniques to see if there is a like between what they are experiencing and what it is and even talk to a licensed counselor or psychologist to verify.
