Thought this was very interesting. If you dont live in New England, some ox equipment can be harder to acquire without paying a lot in shipping. I mostly try to build my own ox tack myself. Traditional yoke making with bow yokes requires access to pretty large diameter green timbers so you can make your yoke blank out of a clear section of wood that doesnt contain the pith to reduce checking. You also need nice clear hickory, oak, or white ash trees to make bows out of. Ive been making my own yokes but buying bows from New England. But I always prefer to make stuff myself. The trick with steam bending the bows for me is constructing a nice system for backing the wood on the outside of the bow that is in extreme tension when the wood is bending around your bow form in the jig. They always fail on me there. An idea Ive kicked around with is making a laminated/composite bow with solid wood for the straight parts of the bow sides and laminated strips for the bow section. Now that I have a good bandsaw I am going to try this. Heres a great example of the technique in this youtube video. It doesnt even involve steam bending. Just soaking the wood. https://youtube/watch?v=FaguTbkkgIk
