Thought weeds. Grandmas nemesis was the cocklebur. One weed could destroy a beanfield. Coclkeburs multiply; quickly. This week while cleaning up the yard I unknowingly picked up a cluster of cockleburs on my coat. The coat was dirty so I washed it. When I removed it from the dryer it was like a piece of Velcro. Stickers everywhere. I have tried to be ruthless with the vexing weed for about six years now but this one escaped my attention. In life we consume media and absorb our culture allowing seemingly innocent influences to take root in our brain. No problem. For awhile. A coclkebur starts as a pretty, velvety plant. But quickly grows to an impassable combine stopping monster up to 8 ft. tall. They block the sunlight from every other plant in the area and the deep roots suck the water from the earth. Fame, lust, envy, vampires, witches, perverts; brain weeds. Anger, grumbling, impatience; thought weeds. Whatever is hollow, trivial, fleshly, devoid of lasting purpose. Pull em Burn em Take em out with extreme prejudice. Hoe the rows of your brain. Make room for a harvest. The harvester is coming. Burn them weeds. Do it now! Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
