Thoughts for a Saturday... I was down in America yesterday, and, amazingly enough, I was hungry. Now I know that many of you might gravitate to a full service restaurant. Some of you will jump to the fast food franchises that are not in Canada, yet. I tried to hit the middle ground. I went to Five Guys, and heres why. Full service restaurants, are well, full service. They want you to stay and have as many choices as is reasonable, built around their theme, so you will keep coming back. On the other end of the spectrum. places like McDs, are trying to be many things to all, as fast as possible, without being anything to anyone. Currently McDs has about 200 items that they sell. Places like, Five Guys, Burger Fi, specialize in a much more truncated menu, that places the emphases on flavour and quality, as opposed to quantity. Five Guys, for instance, does hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, and 4 veggie sandwiches. Thats it. No salads, chicken nuggets, wraps, milkshakes, etc.. Now they also have a great selection of toppings for those, but thats the basics. Their model of food service is, do three things, and do them well. And thats their path to success. And their success tastes good.
