Thoughts from 10,000 feet...after a visit with my tap dance fam Justin M. Lewis, an impromptu visit with my one of my east coast sisters Paula Gallagher Mcgee & family, some rocking classes and choreography sessions at Dancemoves in Baltimore and Premier Dance Academy in Richmond, and some long overdue catch up time with my southern peoples Ginger Rapp & Jeff Rapp, I am FINALLY headed back to LA and my honey Dayna Hassons arms. Ill be home for a whole 6 days before I head back to the EAST COAST for some family thanksgiving time! I have been on the road for MOST of this year. If I counted days on the road to days at home, its gotta be at least 3 to 1 if not 4 to 1. Not gonna lie, life on the road isnt as easy as it used to be in my early 20s, especially when I have to leave my love at home so often. :( The thing that makes it all worth it is discovering the impact that I have been able to have on my students; knowing that they think about me, my choreography, and far more important than the dancing, knowing that my Garrett Talks and stories are being heard and remembered, and that they look forward to seeing me and working with me. There is no greater feeling in the world, I am humbled and grateful. To my mentor, one of the most incredibly beautiful, talented, and passionate women I have ever had the privilege of working with, Tina DAmato-Sidoni...THANK YOU for seeing something in me and pushing me as hard as you did, for teaching me not only how to dance and move, but how to LOVE it, and how to rely on it to get me through the difficult times in life. THANK YOU for instilling the sense of responsibility in me (and the MANY others that you have taught throughout the years Alexie Agdeppa Crockett Yasmina Chin) to give it back. I honestly dont think Id be here today if it werent for you. AND, I cant tell you how amazing it is to me that you and my VERY FIRST Musical Theatre teacher David Sidoni (Shout out WTMTC 1990) are happily together and raising a beautiful family together. I love you both so much, and couldnt be more grateful for you presence in my life. As I descend into LAX, I reflect for a moment on my voice.
