Thoughts from Chief Sjolander... I got hugs... Mrs. Chief, my daughter, Mrs. Lenz from our local paper, Officer Ben, and I spent our night with some wonderful young people. We had a great time and heres what I took away from our time together. One young person loves to read and wants to be a pastor when they grow up. One child loves basketball and has an amazing smile. When it comes to working with a child with special abilities, Mrs. Chief and I make a great team. Young people still like to hold an old cops hand when they cross the street and they all love crayons, snowmen, technology, and spaghetti. I hear and see all the troubles going on in our world and Im worried. Im worried about the future of my profession, Im worried that we as people are quick to judge, but not forgive. Tonight was special. It was not about anything other than some people spending time together and making some kids feel like they were the only kids in the world. It was about putting our best foot forward and listening to stories. When I asked the parents if it was ok that our local paper came with, one parent said it best when she said Yea thats fine...things like this should defiantly be in the paper. You and your whole town have such pure hearts... Im feeling pretty lucky. In a world that seems so full of anger, I work in a nice place where I was thanked and paid in hugs today. Not a bad way to spend an evening if I do say so myself, and thats good enough for me. Stay safe, Lee
