Thoughts from Chief Sjolander... Its that time of year again... We are gearing up for our second annual Garage of Goodness taking place here in Kenyon on December 6th. We are now accepting donations of gently used items that will be given away for free in a garage sale style event from noon to 4pm. This event takes place in a city owned building located on the corner of 2nd St. and Langford Ave. We accept donations almost anytime of day, but we are a small agency and if our officers are busy, you might need to line up a time to meet one of us. Last year was a huge success and we are hoping to repeat that again this year. This event takes place during our Christmas in Kenyon, so please stop by our local businesses and take part in the events taking place that day. We are very honored that people want to donate items for this event, but we learned a lot from last year and we are asking that people follow some basic guidelines, here they are... We will accept the following items. Clean gently used clothing of all sizes and for all seasons. Clean shoes and boots (please make sure the shoes are in pairs) Household items like dishes, utensils, pots, and pans. Knick Knacks like picture frames, figurines, etc. Clean toys with all parts and peaces. Small home furnishing like tables and chairs in good shape. Basic hygiene items like towels, washcloths, unopened soaps, deodorants, shampoos, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. Jewelry, books, etc. We will not accept the following items. Couches. TVs. Beds. Cribs. Refrigerators. Microwaves. We are not trying to come off as picky, or unappreciative of items dropped off last year. Most items were in good shape and went to good homes. Its just that we ended up spending money having items picked up and hauled away that were in poor shape. The doors will open at noon and all items are first come, first serve. We will have a donation jar available and if you can make a small donation, great, we are not looking at this as a fundraiser, but as a way to help those in need fill some needs. Stay safe, Lee
