Thoughts from Chief Sjolander... Today is Memorial Day... I sent my oldest son a message this morning telling him I love him, I hope he is safe, and Im very proud of him. He is serving over seas, and while he is not on the front lines at this time, I know that things can change in a moment and all our lives could be turned upside down. I hope he sees it at some point today. Today reminds me of how lucky I am to have my son alive who is serving in the armed forces and I know his desire to serve is based, in part, because a lot of brave men and women have paved the way before him and some have given their lives helping others and defending our great nation. Today is the day set aside to honor those who have given their lives fighting for our freedom and trying to improve the lives of others. Im in awe of their bravery, dedication, and their fighting spirit, but I think its important to remember our veterans everyday. Past, present, and future. My heart breaks and I have the utmost respect for those who are spending their day at a grave site, looking at a folded flag, photos, or mementos because their loved ones gave the ultimate sacrifice, like Edwin Schauman. He was my wifes uncle. He died over seas in WWII. My father in law has never spoken much about the loss of his brother, but you can see the loss in his eyes when he looks at the black and white photo of his brother in his uniform. To all our brave men and women who answer the call to serve our great nation. Thank you. You are loved, needed, respected, and we pray for your safe return. Stay safe, Lee
