Thoughts in Worship Message Magazines Online Devotional for Sabbath, September 27, 2014 Based Upon 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” One of my greatest difficulties with interpersonal relationships has to do with the reliability of people’s word. When I make a promise, outside of extenuating circumstances beyond my control, I do my best to keep it. I will usually inconvenience myself rather than go back on my word. In general, that is a Christian virtue. I pray that my motives are always pure in making, and keeping promises. When someone makes a promise to me, it severely disturbs me if they do not follow through. It does not matter if it is a simple promise with no real consequence, or one with greater significance. I believe the Lord when He says that it is better not to make an oath at all, than to make one and simply not keep it. The Lord is trustworthy. There are many alive today that have grown apathetic concerning the prospect of the second coming of Jesus Christ. They have become complacent with this life and because of Jesus’ apparent delay; they would just as soon believe that He is not coming at all. What they fail to realize is that one of God’s most beautiful attributes is patience. He has already planned the very day and hour that Jesus will return, though He has not shared it with us. Within the parameters of His divine patience, love, and will, He is giving every possible opportunity for sinners to repent, in order to have access to the tree of life, and enter in through the gates into the city. “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;” 2 Peter 3:8, 15. God’s timeline is far different than ours. Rest assured that when the time is just right, He that shall come, will come and will not delay. The probation of all humankind is in place that we all might have ample opportunity to choose life. His apparent delay is for our good. Like the souls represented as under an altar crying out in the book of Revelation “How long, oh Lord,” you too may be weary of this life. As you await His blessed appearing, pray that you will be found in peace in Him. Pray that you will be found faithfully doing what He has lovingly commanded. As we all do this, whenever He chooses to roll back the clouds as a scroll, we will be ready to meet Him in the air. Comfort one another with these words.--L. David Harris
