Thoughts in Worship for Wednesday, July 23, 2014 Focus: Life & Media Recently, I was surfing videos online, looking for views of a certain beach town in the Caribbean. This is innocent enough, right? But what happened during my search was unexpected: I clicked on a link to a program into which people call-in for relationship advice. I was appalled at the vulgar way in which the lady host addressed the caller. She repeatedly stated that it was her uncouth ways that keep her happily married, with an additional boyfriend on the side. It occurs to me that there are many ways the enemy bombards the minds of people living in the last days. There are things that I would not venture to watch normally, because they do not align with the admonition in Philippians 4:8 to fix our minds upon virtuous things. Yet, there are instances when we can inadvertently run into negative media that lodges itself into our minds. I may never be able to forget what I heard that day. The woman’s voice and foul language left an indelible impression upon my mind. Now, there is a battle in my mind to meditate upon the Words of God or some other enriching thing, rather than the evil speech from the program. What is the lesson? Even those of us who are conscientious must ever submit our plans to God. When we submit ourselves fully to Him, He will give His angels charge over us, and keep us from inadvertent traps from the enemy. I encourage you (and me) to stay prayed up, entrust every moment of your day, and the keeping of your mind to God. He is the only safe place for something so precious.—L. David Harris
