Thoughts of the moment: There is labor to this struggle, to the fights we battle internally and externally each time another one of our kin falls.(Tip for life--when in doubt or need of answers listen to Sweet Honey in the Rock such as We who believe in freedom cannot rest...& We are the ones we are waiting for) This past week I was contracting while the streets were once again on fire-- my heart was aching, my spirit angry and crying, my belly was kicking and twisting in knots of another black male ready to come into our racist country and I know that we cannot fight guns with guns-- that way we all die. We gotta do it with love. Solidarity. Each time you say I love you to someone and you mean it-- we win a small battle. They want us to fight, to kill ourselves, they want us not to feel, not to be angry, not to cry nor profess our love. There is a reason the first things in systematic cattle slavery was to separate families, dehumanize through lack of familiar love, touch, education, drums, dance and music. The force of love is intimate, universal, timeless and profound. I am still in awe and in shock of what my body did and the child and life I now have. Today in downtown Chicago, under the sounds of war planes for this air& water show I see a young body, my crying son, not even two full days old needing love and support in ways we all do. Why do we work so hard to lose this ability to express and support ourselves and others? It is critical and vital that we always are genuine in how we feel-- cry when necessary, scream, love, sing, read and play. We are too human to pretend we are not. We were never meant to be electronically dependent beings, chemically dependent or stressed. We are born to use all five of our senses daily. This is what will help save us. We following and being our true selves and essence is what will save us. We are the ones we are waiting for. Listening, loving, being like our baby spirits, relearning our childhood lessons and truths are steps back towards humanity and freedom, both internally and societally.
