Thoughts on PRETEND EVERYTHING IS SHINY! This is especially prevalent in lifestyle blogs, but Ive also seen it in coaching blogs, creative blogs, etc. The marketing gurus will tell you to present the lifestyle your clients will want to buy. They will tell you to present your very best selfies, the most adorable pictures of your kids, the set dressed house - in short, they will tell you to leave out all the real stuff and only share the highlight reel. This has one purpose, and that is to make people ENVY you enough that they will buy your schtick (and your product). You are selling to peoples pain point. WANT MY BEAUTIFUL LIFE? (of course you do!) BUY MY SCHTICK! This is insidious. I find it incredibly dishonest. I have been turned off a lot of people because of this because I am all too painfully aware of the damage done when we compare our real lives with someone elses highlight reel. I may not have 100 000 followers who all drool over my perfect appearing life, but my people are *very engaged*. I never say WANT MY PERFECT LIFE? I say LIFE IS HARD. WERE IN THIS TOGETHER. Heart centered is my way. The perfect, whitewashed envy machine is NOT my way.
